Word Processing Operator II

Oversees themaintenance of records and operations of the Records area according toestablished procedures. Handles telephone inquiries and correspondence, habesand restraining orders from courts, District Attorneys and other justiceagencies. Responsible to schedule, track all court and video conference trips.Responsible for running all reports from the Inmate Management System;Responsible for In-House "Record Audit" of six part folders;processing any deduction from sentences sheets on inmates on an annual basis;processing of correspondence from inmates and clearance letters for Attorneys;typing and maintaining data on the quarterly report; ordering office supplieson a monthly basis for Records Department; Performs other related duties inRecords, as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of the types anduses of word processing systems, equipment, software packages and applicationsand skill in operating a word processing system. Ability to supervise,including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to beaccomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and available resources,controlling work through periodic reviews and/or evaluations. Ability toexplain the laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governingassigned unit activities. Ability to conduct training or instruction.
This is a CivilService position. Please note that salaries for union positions are determinedaccording to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement.

The agency shallconsider any incidents of sexual harassment in determining whether to hireanyone who may have contact with offenders or residents.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time experience in office work, the major duties of which included typing and of which at least (B) one year must have been involved in the operation of word processing equipment; or (C) any combination of such experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A diploma or evidence of graduation from a commercial or business course of a recognized high school or vocational/technical high school may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.
II. A diploma as evidence of graduation from a course other than a commercial or business course of a recognized high school or vocational/ technical high school or possession of a Massachusetts High school equivalency certificate may be substituted for a maximum of eight months of the required (A) experience.
III. A diploma for completion of a program in a recognized, non-degree granting business or secretarial-school above the high school level may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.
IV. An Associate's or higher degree may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience .
Education toward such a degree or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
