Overview


Our Medication Assistant, under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, performs moderately complex pharmaceutical assistance and other clerical support work.? Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Qualifications


Education:



  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.


Experience:



  • Minimum one (1) year of experience as a pharmacy technician. ??

  • Knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terms and of the laws and regulations related to pharmaceutical operations.?

  • Skill in the operation of pharmaceutical equipment.?

  • Ability to prepare prescriptions, inventory supplies and communicate effectively. ?

  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.


Licenses/Certifications:



  • Must hold and maintain a current license as a Registered Pharmacy Technician) in the state of practice and must be registered with the board of pharmacy.

  • Certification with Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or similar program required. ??



Responsibilities


  1. Answers telephone inquiries in a professional manner, stating who is speaking, and respond to problems within the scope of the position but may not take a physician?s verbal order.

  2. Enters patient demographic data and medication orders into the pharmacy computer system. May not override drug utilization review or drug interaction alerts.

  3. Checks in and verifies correctness of medications sent from pharmacy. Places medication into a cart(s) for delivery to the units.? Performs all other pharmacy related clerical duties as assigned.

  4. Gathers medication to replenish floor stock, prepares patient specific orders for delivery to each unit after the work is checked by a Pharmacist.

  5. Must have a thorough working knowledge of the automated medication dispensing system if used.

  6. If a wholesaler is used orders medications; checks in the order; stickers the products; and submits billing sheets to Accounting.? Assists in drug inventory counts if required, monitors and removes outdated medication.

  7. If a wholesaler is used, the technician pre-packs medications that are received in bulk including liquids.

  8. Prepares resident?s remaining medications and any additional medications sent from pharmacy for discharged.

  9. Maintains adequate stock levels in the units and rotates inventory as necessary, removing any outdates.

  10. Ensures Medication Administration Records (MAR?s) are available for each unit, if there is no EMAR.

  11. Prepares, receives, and reconciles drug shipments; stocks drugs and reports drug shortages. ?The sending pharmacy is to be notified of any discrepancies identified with the drug order immediately.

  12. In conjunction with nursing track resident IM injections that are given every 2 weeks or monthly, assuring medication is available for administration on the day specified.

  13. Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.

  14. Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.

  15. Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.

  16. Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.

  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
