Graduate Assistant - Veterans Center

BSU?s Military and Veteran Students Services (MVSS) and the Veterans Center is committed in assisting the military and veteran community at Bridgewater State University in achieving academic and personal success.
Graduate Assistant Position Description:
Veterans Center graduate assistant will provide academic and co-curricular support for military and veterans students, while advancing their understanding of and competence in student success strategies, leadership, and public administration.
Act as an advocate for all military-connected students
Assist with the coordination of military specific events and programs on campus
Assists as appropriate with the coordination between students, staff, and faculty to resolve problems and/or complaints in accordance with the University's policies and procedures.
Assist on the guidance and mentoring of VA work-study participants working in BSU?s Veterans Center.
Assists the MVSS Director in their Research with student veterans in order to identify, enhance, and promote student success programming
Assist the Student Veterans Group (Military Student Association @ BSU) and works directly with the Advisor of the group
Attend student organization meetings and relevant campus and community outreach events
Help the VA certifying official maintain VA records and files of students receiving GI Bill benefits
Refer veterans on an individual and group basis with educational, personal, and/or career questions or issues to proper University offices and services
Assist with informational updates (newsletters, email, Social Media etc.) for student veterans to keep them informed and connected to the BSU community
Assists veterans with their transition to the BSU, including assistance in the application process..
Maintain networks with outside resources and agencies; make appropriate referrals to campus and community resources
Provide walk-in services and coordinates the Veterans Services social media accounts, utilizing referral resources as needed
Participate in regular meetings with Veterans Services Coordinator and Veteran Affairs Work Study students to discuss Veterans Center projects and issues
Assist students in applying to BSU and for Federal Tuition Assistance, State Tuition Assistance, and VA benefits
Learning Outcomes:
Demonstrate leadership skills related to supervising and developing students to include:
o Facilitating group decision-making
o Goal-setting
o Managing conflict
o Appropriately mentor students and staff while exhibiting strong active listening skills.
Identify systematic barriers to equity and equality for students in order to advocate for and implement means of addressing these obstacles.
Model appropriate and effective techniques for supervising student and professional staff.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
